Otaru

When I went up to Chitose for an exchange program, my hosts there took me to a few places.  Otaru is a beautiful place.  We went to see the festival and the fireworks show.  There is a street called “sushi dori” which means sushi street, duly named because of all the sushi restaurants! It’s pretty expensive to eat there, but needless to say the sushi was DELICIOUS!

While in Otaru, my friends took me on a boat ride along the coastline.  The interesting part about the boat ride was the fact that they sold chips on the boat.  These chips were not for consumption by it’s passengers, but by the seagulls that fly alongside the boat the entire way.  The exciting part is that you can hold the chips in your hand and the seagulls will fly over and snatch it right out of your hand.  If you throw the chips into the air, most of the time they’ll catch it mid flight.  It was kind of like playing fetch, except with seagulls instead of a dog, and the seagulls didn’t bring the item back, they ate it.

Anyhow, enjoy the photos!
